364. Trust: Write about putting trust in someone.
When traveling in a foreign country, I have to trust taxi drivers, hotel owners, and shop keepers to be honest and keep me safe when I don’t understand the language. Getting off the plane in Lima, there warning signs about unsafe taxis complete with large graphics of a woman surrounded my man with taxi signs crowding around her. This was effective messaging enough that I went to a desk to find a taxi rather than just going outside and waiting in a taxi queue as I normally would. For 55 soles, I was taken to my hotel in the Centro Historico district. At the hotel, a taxi was arranged to take us back to the airport at 11pm so silly me thought the price would be similar. Not only did the taxi arrive a half hour early causing us to rush in the final details of packing (better early than late though), but he literally charged twice as much. I think he saw how much I had and said that was how much the fare was. It was 11pm, I was tired, and was leaving the country and had no farther need for soles, so I didn’t fight back. Trust was broken in that interaction.
