Toronto

Since I usually take overseas flights, a flight somewhere on the same continent seemed short. After 2 shortish fights, we were in the outskirts of Toronto. It was cold, wet, and gray.

In the morning, DH2 went off for a departmental visit while I navigated the train system into downtown Toronto. It was raining so hard that by the time I walked from the station to the hotel, all of the clothes in my duffle bag were wet. I discovered that my Vessi shoes were not in fact waterproof, contrary to their advertising. This did not put me in a good mood. I was torn whether I should stay in my warm, dry room for the day but miss out on seeing Toronto or get wet. I pondered this over lunch in the sports bar in the hotel that literally overlooked the Blue Jay’s baseball stadium. I have to admit, it was pretty cool. I decided to get wet and walked to the Shoe Museum which was interesting. My brain was a little glitchy since I was weaning off some meds but overall I’m glad I went. Unfortunately by the time I arrived back at the hotel, I was soaked down to my underwear.

When I looked up at the CN tower, I couldn’t even see the viewing platform. I had to concede that I wasn’t going to see anything if I went into the tower.

Kingston

We took a train from through the gray sky and sad landscape from Toronto to Kingston. It snowed rather than rained and everything in town was within a 15 minute walk so I was much happier in Kingston than I was in Toronto. The Museum of Health Care was fascinating and included a record of Sigmund Freud! I visited the Great Lakes museum but I was disappointed that there was no history about how the lakes were formed. I visited the Pump House but was disappointed that there was no discussion about how the lake water was purified for consumption. I had restaurant recommendations from an old UCR friend so went to Chez Piggy for lunch and Olivea for dinner; both of which were spectacular.

Ottawa

We only had a half day in Ottawa so we went to the Canadian Museum of History and walked around town. We wandered by the parliament building on the way to Beckta, a most excellent restaurant for dinner. A pleasant day where I didn’t get rained or snowed upon!!
