Zanzibar

From South Africa, we changed planes three times to get to Tanzania and upon arrival, we discovered that our luggage was never loaded at Johannesburg. Thank you Apple Air Tag. The only thing I was missing was my toiletry bag so I made do. We walked around and had dinner at place recommended by the Best Places to Eat in Every Country book. The food was ok but then we had to source some gelato. There was marginal to no internet.

We went on a spice tour where we saw growing: cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, coffee, rambutan, clove, pepper, curry leaves, grapefruit, vanilla, jack fruit, and bananas. I loved seeing how everything grew and what it looked in the wild. We wandered city, getting lost in the narrow twisty alleyways and took pix in front of Freddie Mercury’s childhood holiday house. With Zanzibar being religious/Muslim, I was surprised that Mercury would even be acknowledged due to his sexuality. I guess tourism trumps religion sometimes.

Our bag showed up on Zanzibar the night before we were to leave so we took a tuktuk round trip to the airport to pick it up. We just wandered the next morning until it was time to go. We few out on a prop plane with just one seat on each side of the aisle.
