The art of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is currently displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. Born in 1929, Kusama creates multi-media art highlighting her favorite themes of polka dots and pumpkins. In her 20’s, she wrote Georgia O’Keefe for advice about how to be a woman artist in a male dominated field. She was friends with Dali and Warhol, and created many of her own artistic opportunities throughout her career. In 1965, she invented the infinity room which I personally think is so cool. She said “When we obliterate nature and our bodies withe polka dots, we become part of the unity of our environment.” I’m inspired by her work. Kusama is the self professed “high priestess of polka dots” and I am but a mere acolyte.
Inspired by the art of Yayoi Kusama, I matched my nails to her art
