Yahoo produces the occasional original mini-movie videos. The series is serialized and 6-10 minute episodes are released every daily over a period of days.
Tom Hanks produced “Electric City” for Yahoo. It’s a post-apocalyptic animated series that featured an all-star line up for voice work: Tom Hanks, Holland Taylor, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tara Stong (Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony), Ginnifer Goodwin. Since Tom Hanks produced Big Love on HBO which featured Tripplehorn and Goodwin, I wondered if they owed him a favor or if they really just liked working together. The story deals with an un-named disaster which leaves society with limited electricity. Does this remind you of NBC’s Revolution that debuted 2 weeks ago?
Last week, Yahoo debuted Cybergeddon, advertised as a digital crime thriller “from the creator of CSI.” What it really was, was a huge advertisement for Symantec Norton anti-virus software. There’s a scene where the FBI agent, framed for unleashing a computer virus has to “disappear.” She goes to the bathroom to cut and dye her hair: it looked just like Katy Perry’s performance in her “Part of Me” video. The story was far-fetched with clichéd characters. Yet I still watched it. The logo for Cybergeddon uses the same symbol of a power switch as does “Revolution.”
