This is the year of the Zombie for me. It is the popular choice for horror characters so I’m well within cultural norms.
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks is written in Studs Terkel journalism style. Chapters are presented as a series of first-hand interviews from people in different parts of the world pertaining to the zombie war. As the book progresses, the stories cover the zombie outbreak, build-up of the war, the battles, and the defeat of the zombies.
I listened to the audio version and it was a star-studded production which included Alan Alda, Mark Hamill, Rob and Carl Reiner, John Turturro, and more. With the acting production added to this story, it reminded me of an audio-play.
This could have been made into an interesting movie. I think someone liked the name “World War Z” and the concept for a zombie war but the 2013 Brad Pitt movie bore no resemblance to this book. The movie is a turd and the book is in my top 5 best books of the year.
