In 2008, Wii introduced Wii Fit, a balance board controller along with a new set of activity software. There was boxing, hula-hooping, running, aerobics, yoga, balance games, etc. It was mildly entertaining but not terribly useful for a triathlete to stay in shape. It became boring, as most videos games do.
While exercising outside in Santa Barbara, I occasionally flash on the Wii-run activity. TheWii screen shows your head as a transparency as you jog through the Wii countryside, beachside or cityscape. Other Mii characters that use the system (e.g. friends and family) and random characters are also present on the course. You can pass them, they pass you, they wave to you from the side of the course.
Biking or running along the Coastal Route bike trail reminds me of the Wii-run experience. Multiple people, all buzzing by each other. Occasionally I’ll see someone I know. The Wii countryside is lovely but being in Santa Barbara is the best. Real life wins.
