Subtitle: For the Elderly and Beautiful.
I hadn’t seen an art film in years. With teen boys, I’ve mostly watched action, adventure, fantasy, sci-fi with an occasional chick-flick with my sister or GF.
On a personal recommendation, I decided to see this. It had an all star cast: Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Dev Patel. When England has so many talented older actors, it makes sense to make as movie that can use as many of them as possible!
IMDB gives this synposis
British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than its advertisements, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways.
India was a character itself: its colors, sounds, frantic cramped transportation. It was a good canvas for the story of the characters to live their transformations.
Best line:
Everything will be all right in the end… if it’s not all right then it’s not the end.
Themes of aging, relationships, regrets, life purpose, rising above it all. Predictable yet charming, I’m glad I spent the time to visit this film.
