December 21-25, 2023
After the Galapagos, we traveled to Quito where Son joined us for an adventure so we could all acclimatize to the altitude. We started our tour with a visit to Basílica del Voto Nacional, the largest neo-Gothic Catholic basilica in the Americas. The structure was beautiful and the views were stunning.
On day two, we leaned into the whole “we’re at the center of the world” thing and went to The Ciudad Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World City) and the Intiñan Equator Museum.
We roamed the city for day three and enjoyed choosing and eating usual fruit, having a chocolate experience, and appreciating the architecture and lighting of the Christmas-decorated city.
On Christmas Eve we spent the day in Mindo, a village in the cloud forest. Bugs, butterflies, birds; zip-lining, hiking; waterfalls and flowers.
On Christmas, DH2 and son went climbing some huge mountain. I chilled at the hotel. We were all happy about how we spent the day.
