Posture

from http://allsystemsgo.info/posturology.php

I was referred to the ergonomics people at work to make sure my workstation was set up properly, facilitated comfort in my surgery recovery, and prevented future problems. The expert walked in and immediately said that not only was my set up all wrong, but that I was was interfacing with it improperly. Joy.

After writing down my history, she wanted to know how I got injured. She distrusted that bone spurs were genetic and scoffed that I didn’t know how I developed herniated disks. HerĀ Kinesiology background pointed to my bad posture as the culprit to my woes. Sigh.

I was lectured on posture and shown with a model of the spine how my sitting and standing causes herniated disks. I wanted to rebel since it means change. The Chinese symbol for change represents both danger and opportunity. Whereas I don’t want to change, it’s hard to change, I probably need to change.

I’ve been successful with physical therapy in all of the injuries I’ve been through. I do the exercises regularly with the goal of getting better. I need to approach the posture change as physical therapy to help ease my mindset.
