Podcasts

As Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was being released in July 2007, I decided to find out about this thing called a podcast. I had heard there was something called Mugglecast and went off to itunes to figure it out. I downloaded my first Mugglecast 4/21/07 and caught the mugglecasters giving their initial reactions to the book. I decided this was pretty cool.

I subscribed and became attached to these podcasters, following them in their Twilight themed podcast called Imprint, and a now defunct SmartMouths podcast.

I listen to NPR and found that This American Life and a Prairie Home Companion also had podcasts.

Podcasts are on-demand radio shows. I like that I can choose my content and listen when I want. I listen when I walk, do yard work, housework and cook. It makes time go by quickly.

As Harry Potter and Twilight became less active with the book and movie franchises winding down, I had less to listen to. I have recently subscribed to Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me and find myself laughing out loud at 5:30am in the dark walking up my favorite hill. I’ve also fueled my newest TV obsession with a Once Upon a Time podcast.

I like this inexpensive, portable entertainment!
