Music Makes You Move

Music and exercise. Ahhh, they go together, don’t they?

In the high-impact aerobics days, in the early 80’s, I remember the music to be just pop hits, with no focus on BPM (beats per minute). If it had a good beat, the music was used. Oh, and they were played by LP albums. In the 90’s, the cassette tape ruled. With Step-Aerobics, matching/maintaining the BPM became mandatory. The best part about cassette tapes was that there were players where you could change the pitch of the music. When the music was pitched up, it sounded way cooler. Then CDs hit with premixed music. Now an instructor can create her mix on her ipod, plug it into the club system and blare away.

My favorite old aerobics song is “You Make Me Feel Mighty Real” by Sylvester

I listen to my ipod when I’m walking or attempting to run. If I listen to a podcast, I find I go slower and plod more. If I listen to music, I match the beat and find I do go faster. I can’t hear the podcast if I’m running so I have to listen to music while I run.

What do you like about the song? It had a good beat and I could dance to it.
