TNT’s 2014 summer crime drama, Murder in the First, focused on one crime through the entire season. It was more like focusing on one suspect, a character played by Tom Felton who was Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series.
Felton plays Erich Blunt, a virtual reality app developer with money, power, and an ego to match. He is accused of murdering an employee with whom he was having a relationship. There is also a suspicious connection of him in the death of his father and grandfather. I liked watching Felton as the power hungry wunderkind who weasels his way out damning situations. He plays a great bad guy.
The show is supposed to be about the 2 flawed but supposedly likable cops (Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson) who try to uncover the truth about Blunt. It was supposed to be about their family and relationship struggles, their personal attraction, the corrupt police system. They were certainly nice to look at. Throw in some Steven Webber and James Cromwell, and there was some serious star power behind this series.
There has been no word whether this has been renewed for a second season. It does not bode well. I kept rooting for the bad guy.
