Midnight Crossroad

I am such a fangirl of Charlaine Harris that I squeed when Midnight Crossroad showed up in my email for downloading. This book is intended to be the first of a series, the first new novel series since 2005.

I read slowly so I could take in each new character. I knew that these initial introductions would be important in my commitment to a new Harris world. I was surprised and delighted that 3 of the characters were taken from her other series: a character each from Lily Bard, Aurora Teagarden, and Harper Connelly. Although no characters were directly from Sookie Stackhouse, aspects of sookieverse were present: vampires were out of the coffin and there is a reference to were-creatures. Other similarities with sookieverse are witchcraft, a cat who is more than a cat, and a small-town close-knit community.

It almost doesn’t matter what the story was about; I was so happy to learning about Midnight, Texas and its inhabitants. But, this is the mystery of a missing/murdered woman and how the set of unusual Midnight denizens solves the crime. Simple story, loved the journey. I can’t wait for May 2015 for installment two!

p.s. A squee is the sound made by excited fangirls (or fanboys). Look it up!
