This week was packed with fun things and yummy food. That’s sort of the thing, yes?
On a rainy Sunday afternoon, we finally went to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. The building was amazing but the exhibition was not inspiring. After I viewed all I could find, I asked if there was more but was told no 🙁
I’d passed the Kaleidoscope outside of the NGV and received a recommendation that I go at night. It was cloudy so we couldn’t see stars but the night sky made the lights in the maze amazing. Presented by Arts Centre Melbourne in association with RISING, this presentation is described as
A mesmerising symphony of light, sound and joy, staged in a breathtaking mirror maze.

My description: a maze with mirror and lights. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Chloé
Chloé is a 260 by 139 cm oil canvas painting of a young Parisian girl by French figure artist Jules Joseph Lefebvre, painted in 1875. Chloe’s Bar, where the painting hangs, has been her home since 1909. She is known as the “Melbourne Icon” and is the mascot of HMAS Melbourne.

We finally had drinks in Chloe’s Bar, at Young and Jackson, located opposite the landmark steps of Flinders Street Station. A GF said that this was once a destination on a scavenger hunt for a team-building work event.
This was a must-see location and I got a negroni as well 🙂
Food Anyone?
Everyone has a favorite restaurant so I write down everyone’s recommendation and try to go. We had food from Ghana but I found I wasn’t a fan. We re-visited Rainbow Toastie and it’s hands down the best toastie I’ve ever eaten. It’s more art than toastie.
My favorite food is cheese so Milk the Cow was a solid destination. I tried to go after we visited the Medical Museum at the U. of Melbourne (not that exciting) but it was Monday and therefore closed. I took myself to this Licensed Fromagerie on a Friday lunch date and enjoyed a glass of wine with my 3 Cheese Cheesemonger’s Choice board. The cheesemonger of the day was an American-born, AU/NZ/US raised man who had an American accent that had softened through years of AU living. He was very friendly, it was a pleasant afternoon, and I wish I had left a bigger tip.
Zoo
I’d been trying to get to the zoo for a while but it rained a lot. We decided to go regardless of the rain and found the rain offered a mood for our experience. Because it was raining, there were many animals that were inactive or hiding. The ones who were out, were a lot of fun. I didn’t think the butterfly house would be that good because it was cold and wintery but the hothouse was hot and the butterflies were swarming and active. Beautiful.
