This was Labor Day weekend complete with a 3-day weekend and a Moomba Festival. We walked by the festival but didn’t partake in the festivities.
On Saturday, we surveyed for trains, trams, and coffee shops. In the afternoon we took a tram to the beach, walked along the cold and windy shore, and ate fish and chips at a beach shack.
On Sunday, we walked to the Royal Botanic Gardens to enjoy the one warm day we’d experienced in Melbourne. I was impressed that it was free and quite large with a wide range of specimens. We wandered out of the garden and found the Shrine of Remembrance, Victoria’s national memorial honoring the service and sacrifice of Australians in war and peace.
For dinner, we took a train to dine with friends that BF knew from his post-doc days in Oxford. It was a lovely and full day of fun.
