After ushering in the new year, we prepared for our Pasadena friends to visit for 2 weeks. They had the same airbnb that we had in 2021!! I had plans to show them everything I showed my son but they had limited energy so we only did a handful of activities like going to the library and botanic garden, on the Yarra cruise, and taking them to our favorite restaurant.
One thing that was new to me was riding the Puffing Billy. I’d wanted to do this since 2022 and was excited to finally do it. We did a full tourist day with being driven out in a bus, being picked up half way through the train ride, dropped off at the Healsville Sanctuary, and having ice cream at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery.
Near the end of their visit, I sprained my ankle pretty badly. I mismanaged a curb and landed hard. Coincidentally, DH2 found a roller chair at recycling so I was able to get around the apartment for a few days until I graduated to crutches.
We then traveled to the Otways and stayed at an airbnb which had a resident koala in the front yard. Pretty cool.
I started my U3A classes, with learning about Melbourne Queer History. Then we were off to Tasmania.
Home for 26 hours, DH2 was off to East Timor for his 60th birthday adventure. While he was gone, I made a list of things I wanted to do and managed to tick many of the boxes.

- Ferris wheel at the South Wharf
- Beauty and the Beast musical
- Train somewhere (Box Hill)
- Walk the Tan (it’s where all the beautiful people are)
- River walk from our new guide book
- Sipping a Jack Daniels and coke during the AO on Birrarung Marr
I did see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition 2x and painted my nails differently for each visit. I have one more painting iteration before I do my video about it.
I spent energy avoiding the news but headlines would creep through. I’m sad with the fall of democracy in our country. I can’t believe there are so many people with no critical thinking skills who elected he who shall not be named. The world is looking at the US with horrified disbelief.
