I kicked off the month by meeting some “cool retired women” from Facebook to tour the “Cats and Dogs” exhibit at the NGV. It was nice to connect with new people and spend a pleasurable afternoon.
Following Melbourne creators, I often feel FOMO when they announce an event. But now I’m in Melbourne! I have been following the Julian O’Shea since the pandemic and always loved his storytelling so when he announced he had a movie premier and I immediately bought a ticket. I had hoped to have a meet & greet but alas, it was just nice to participate in something that I heard about and wanted to go to.
As part of the Victoria Women’s Social Group from Facebook, I attended a Ladies Xmas Ball benefiting a local emergency shelter. The trains were behaving badly so the streets were packed with cars so it took 1.5 hour to get to the event when it should have only taken 35 minutes. City joy. Women really leaned into the theme so everyone was dressed in sparkles and high heels, plus there was a group of young, botoxed, beautiful women who wanted to be seen. A dinner, fashion show, auction, and raffle rounded out a social evening.
We met with an immigration attorney and a tax professional to discuss our status on both. We’re on course and all will be right.
We celebrated Xmas eve at Eureka 89, the highest restaurant and had an outstanding experience. The views were unmatched, the food sublime, and the drinks didn’t stop. We tried to look at all the city lights but OMG there were SO many people. I think DH2 felt claustrophobic.
On Xmas, we visited a friend who has 2 adult kids and lives in a suburb. Snags cooked on the barbie and eaten on a piece of bread was the authentic Aussie experience we needed.
We attended a Banksy exhibit, met up with many friends, hosted our first dinner party and closed the year with a masquerade party.
Oh, and daughter got married in the middle of it all…
