The Art of Mixology
The Crown Casino hosted an art and alcohol experience. Six local artists were tasked with creating a an art installation inspired by one of the casino’s signature cocktails. After walking through the exhibits, you then get to pick one of the cocktails, watch the bartender create it, sip and enjoy the ambiance of the atmospheric bar.
My first time through the exhibit, I chose the the drink with the smoke filled bubble. The second time, I chose the Zombie where the bartender lit an alcohol filled passion fruit on fire and then sprinkled cinnamon into it to make it spark. I like drinks I can experience with as many senses as possible.
This and That
Balloons over the Docklands.
DH2 bought me 3 new dresses. Dinner in St. Kilda.
Window washing on the 30th floor.
Parliament Tour
I am so glad I finally got a parliament tour! Gorgeous architecture.
The Lume
Monet and Friends is an an epic adventure into French Impressionism. It was similar to the Van Gogh experience in Los Angeles in that there were multi-screens, music, and beautiful art, all in a gigantic room. Here are some extras
- I liked the life-sized painting to insert yourself into.
- A mirror filled room became an infinity garden room.
- Artist biographies in the same room where you could sit at an easel to draw along with projected instruction
& Juliet
& Juliet is a 2019 coming-of-age jukebox musical featuring the music of Swedish pop songwriter Max Martin, with a book by David West Read. It’s a re-imagining of Romeo & Juliet if Juliet hadn’t killed herself at the the end of the play. The production was amazing! The music, the costumes, the singing, and the dancing gave me joy. The Regent Theater was ornate and gorgeous.
More this and that
I broke out the acrylic paints that daughter and partner gave me for xmas and I’ve enjoyed playing with the colors
Daylight saving time ended in California so I began starting work at 7am. Bleh.
I took the Dome to Catacombs library tour. I loved the catacombs with the old card catalogs, old elevators, and pendulum room
Rain fell on Trans Day of Visibility events outside the Library but there was a huge crowd and they walked up Bourke to Parliament.
We saw Arg Barker during the comedy festival. He was he grocer in Flight of the Concords and we saw him open for them at the Hollywood Bowl several years ago.
NGV Ian Potter Gallery
The exhibit called Melbourne Now showcased local contemporary artists. I particularly liked a moving image installation where it captured the inhalation moment of David Attenborough before he spoke throughout his entire career. When he was young, he was quite attractive. A VR installation was supposed to take you through the dying process but to me, it was just a factor of 10 regurgitation. I visited this show 3 times in 3 days, I guess I liked it!
