Medical Care for All

Elysium, the recent Matt Damon as good guy/ Jodie Foster as bad guy Sci-fi movie was a piece of summer entertainment. Earth is a wasteland of people with few resources who speak Spanish while Elysium is the space station where the English and French speaking folk live with all luxuries of life. The two habitats are painted in stark opposition to each other.

Most of the story is “hard science fiction”: no magic involved but the fiction was very fanciful. Damon has to download info from an executive’s brain into his own brain. The race is to reboot the Elysium servers so that all inhabitants of Earth can be citizens of Elysium thus allowing all of Earth’s inhabitants to get health care.

One friend said that the story reminded him of Wall-e while another friend said that she thought one fight scene was films and the editors just kept looping it. There was a lot of violence so I hid behind my hands several times. How many times does Damon almost die? I lost count.

Not fine film but an ok way to spend a couple hours out of the heat.
