Mansfield Park

Mansfield Park has been my least favorite story of the 3 Austen novels that I’ve completed. The story follows Fanny Price, born to a large poor family and taken in by a more wealthy aunt and uncle who live at Mansfield Park. It is is expressly agreed upon her arrival that she is “less than her cousins” and was treated as such for 10 years. The story focuses on the shallowness and frivolities of her cousins and friends all the while Fanny maintains high morality and timidity.

I did not like any of the characters, the general story line, how anyone treated anyone else, nor the ending. Austen was showing the nastiness of societal rules but it succeeded in painting a rather dismal picture.
