MaddAddam

MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood is the last book of the MaddAddam trilogy. I read part 2, The Year of the Flood, almost 2 years ago. I hadn’t known at the time that it was part 2 and that I was stepping into the story midstream. After reading part 3, I am interested in part1 so I can understand the whole arc of the story. It reminds me a little of seeing Star Wars 4-6 and then having to wait forever for 1-3 to come out. I hope I’m not as disappointed with Oryx and Crake as I was with Star Wars episodes 1-3.

This is a science fiction, genetic scientist gone wild society where most humans are gone from a plague. The survivors have to integrate with the genetically engineered humans, fight off the bad real humans, cope with the animal hybrids (thinking pigs anyone?), and flesh out how to create their own history.

From the reviews, it appears that the first book is the best… it’s in my hold queue at the library. I was satisfied with how this story ended. I remember when I read book 2 and thought it was so bleak at the time. With all that has happened in my life, I didn’t find apocalyptic type book bleak or depressing at all. All a matter of perspective.
