‘Little, Brown Books for Young Readers has announced a new four-book series from author Lemony Snicket (a pseudonym for Daniel Handler), set to launch this fall. On October 23, the publisher will release “Who Could That Be at This Hour?”, first in the “autobiographical” All the Wrong Questions series, which will explore Snicket’s youth “in a fading town, far from anyone he knew or trusted.” “Who Could That Be at This Hour?” will be published simultaneously in hardcover, audio, and e-book formats, and has a one-million copy announced first printing.’
This is very exciting!
When Daughter was 7, I had heard about “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and thought it would be something she would enjoy since she had consumed all existing Harry Potter and Hardy Boys books. I read the back cover and the first page to her. She rejected it. I admit it didn’t sound like a book I’d want to read. But more of Lemony Snicket’s books were coming out and there seemed to be good press so I decided to give an audio book a try of the first story. That way it wouldn’t be a time waster if I decided it was awful, it would be something I could listen to in the car or while cooking.
I was not prepared for the dry humor, the witty play on words and how well the story was a written. As I was listening to it, the kids started listening in and before long they wanted to start the story from the beginning. We ended up reading all 10 books and some companion guides. Daughter even had a “Series” themed birthday party.
I look forward to immersing myself into Mr. Snicket’s world again.
