Lake Natron

July 30-31, 2023

I woke up to multiple texts from friends wishing me a happy birthday since DH2 had texted every one the night before. What a lovely treat. The road to Lake Natron was very bumpy road, by far the best Indiana Jones ride ever. When I saw the volcano DH2 was going to climb that night, laughed hysterically because it was so freaking big. Cow and goat caused traffic jams along the Masai territory.

It was so hot! Our Masai guide Samuel walked us along the drying lake edge to see the flamingos.

On the way back to the tent, we stumbled upon a herd of 14 giraffe. They were so nonplussed by us that we could get out of the vehicle!

There was birthday cake for me just before DH2 set off for his night hike up Ol Doinyo Lengai. He got to see the boiling lava at the top and then descended as the sun came up. He was happy.
