Inside Amy Schumer is a Comedy Central sketch comedy show hosted by…Amy Schumer. I saw one or two episodes last year and cringed at the content but I have a much better response to it this year.
The comedy is the raunchy low brow humor you’d expect from Seth McFarlane but from a slutty girl perspective. Schumer makes fun of herself and invites ridicule for having low moral standards. This bothered me last year. I heard a Fresh Air interview with her which helped me understand the humor and Schumer herself. With that new perspective, I binge watched the first season.
No topic is sacred for this show: race, sexuality, gender, rape, age, religion are all skewer. There are sketches, street interviews, sit down interviews, snippets from Schumer’s stand-up routine, stitched together for the 22 minutes of show. Coincidentally, his is currently my current attention span.
At some points I was laughing so loud that I was afraid that I would attract attention from my kids. Often if I’m laughing, they’ll come in to see what is so funny. I had to stifle my laugh because I didn’t want them to watch this show with me.
