I watched USA Network’s Burn Notice from beginning to end: every season and 99% of the shows. When it started in 2007, the advertisements looked mildly interesting. When I watched, I liked the camaraderie of the main group, the split screen of the different events happening at the same time and Fiona’s clothes.
Michael Weston, the uber ex-spy was a cross between James Bond and MacGyver. There was always an adventure, always a tight spot to get out of, and some ingenious way for everything to get resolved. I heard once that Burn Notice was a favorite for visually impaired people because of the trademarked voice-overs that Michael would launch into in explanation of what he was doing.
In 2010, SNL ran a skit called “What Is Burn Notice?” It was a fake gameshow that asked people to tell the host anything they knew about Burn Notice, and contestants pretended they had no clue what the show was. I loved that skit.
Did I mention my obsession over Fiona’s clothes? I searched everywhere online to find out where I could get specific dresses that she wore. Much of her attire was too young for me but her yellow, red, or orange dresses from promotional ads sent me into a focused mining expedition into forums and chat rooms to see where I could purchase a replica.
Last Thursday, I said goodbye to a favorite show. Overall, I was happy with the end, with the characters moving on to make more adventures, just without me spying on them.
