Higher, Stronger, Faster

The Olympics are almost over. It has been an amazing 2 weeks. I marvel at the strength, the dedication, the endurance of these athletes. I like what Obama said:

Now, let me just say, I know how to run – although I don‘t run as fast as these guys. I know how to swim – although I don‘t swim as fast. These gymnasts, I don‘t understand what they‘re doing,” Obama joked. “I cannot even walk on a balance beam.”

I liked how much coverage there was on 3 stations: NBC, NBC Sports and Bravo. There was always something on and sometimes there were even 3 options. Since I was recovering from surgery during 4 of the days, the coverage became very important.

Observations:

  • The gymnasts usde so much sparkle in their hair that their hair looked gray. I thought they were beauty queens with how lovely their hair and makeup were.
  • Then I saw the synchronized swimming and they made the gymnasts look dowdy. The synchronized swimmers were the showgirls of the Olympics. OK, that might have been the one sport I could have done had it been a sport when I was young.
  • My favorite is the men’s gymnast rings. Just watching that pure strength makes me want to pass out.
  • The logo was awful, the font that adored all signage was named one of the 8 worst fonts in the world. I remember the controversy when the logo was unveiled in 2007.

There is comfort in the Olympic 4-year ritual. I look forward to 2016.
