To advertise “My Little Pony” a couple years ago, HUB took Katy Perry’s song California Girls and turned it into Equestria Girls.
Equestria girls, we’re kinda magical (Equestria!)
Boots on hooves, bikinis on top
Furry coats, so cute
We’ll blow your mind
Aoaoah oh, aoaoaoh!
Um, Equestria is the land of our Pony friends.
Now comes the movie Equestria Girls (it opened on Father’s Day and I over heard someone say “oh those poor fathers who had to see this for Father’s Day!”) and we had to drive over an hour away to see it since it was such an exclusive engagement.
The main reason for the movie was to show what the ponies would look like if they were human high school girls. Due to a magic mirror that our heroine Twilight Sparkle goes through, we see a full movie of her adapting to having fingers and walking upright. A Brony dream come true.
There were maybe 5 little girls in the whole theater. One-third of the audience was teen boys and two-thirds was teen girls, with an occasional parent thrown in who had to drive.
Of course the “magic of friendship” saves the day, there were many fun musical numbers (Daughter’s complaint was that there were too many montages), and we’re set up for a sequel in 30 months when they are ready to graduate from high school.
Oh the interesting things we get to experience with our children.
