Dvorak

Son announced last week that he was changing his keyboard to Dvorak layout rather than keep it QWERTY. He said that he never felt confident with QWERTY even after years of games, drills, and usage. He was unhappy that he couldn’t touch type and didn’t get any better with practice.

Dvorak layout uses less finger motion, increases typing rate, and reduces errors.

There is a setting in Windows where you can set your keyboard layout preference so Son decided to try it out. Really, why? “It’s a geek thing to do” he replied. He managed to type the first 4 pages of his 12-page paper using Dvorak.

This weekend, our internet went down and DH was trying to troubleshoot the connection problem by using Son’s laptop (LAN support) but then swore loudly because the keyboard was in Dvorak mode!

It’s hard being the younger sibling and Son tries to differentiate himself from his sister. Dvorak is a great way to do that. Plus it’s gives him geek cred with his peers.
