Another long car drive, another search for anything to listen to on the trip. I was willing to listen to the last Jane Austen novel on my list to read (Northhanger Abbey) but it was not available. I picked something Austen adjacent.
Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler is a fantasy, time travel, romance type of story. Protagonist Courtney is a current day woman who wakes up in Regency England where she maintains her 2007 memories but is now somehow living the life of Jane. Jane has all the typical Austen trappings: a critical mother, an emotionally absent father, a smothering life, and limited possibilities.
The best explanation of how Courtney ended up living Jane’s life is that Jane had gone to a fortune teller where Jane begged for a new life. There is no story on the 2007 side where we see Jane living Courtney’s life. The resolution of the story was unsatisfactory with the memories of Jane and Courtney merging together in Jane’s side of the story once she gave her heart to the intended love interest.
Cheap entertainment at best. Better than listening to the radio.
