Only recently have I started using Spotify when I got it for our New Year’s Eve party and I needed a fire playlist. I don’t think I totally embrace all features but I am enjoying collecting favorite TikTok songs. When I clicked “Today’s Top Hits” and found the randomize button, I was not expecting the song served to me. La Bachata by Colombian singer Manuel Turizo is a Spanish language song and I don’t speak Spanish so all I had to go on was melody, rhythm, and production. As long as I didn’t pay attention to the words or the confusing video that accompanied it, I enjoyed the soothing vocals, the dance-able beat, and the underlying Latin strains. Or in the words of American Bandstand, it’s got a good beat and I can dance to it.
