7. The Rocket-ship: Write about a rocket-ship on its way to the moon or a distant galaxy far, far, away.
There are many space themed TV shows. From as early as “Lost in Space,” moving images of trips to the moon or beyond have been present in my life. If we’re talking about rocket-ship fiction, is it classified as sci-fi?
Son and I just finished “The Expanse” based on the books by James S.A. Corey. I hadn’t read the book but a GF highly recommended the book and series. DH2 and I began the series three times but he always got bored or had some criticism about it. After son and I started the series, DH2 excitedly explained a new book he was reading. While he was describing the plot, I said “that sounds like The Expanse.” Sure enough, he was reading “Leviathan Wakes” which is the first book in the series. Kinda funny. Son and I watched the show over a year while DH2 read through the books. DH2 would ask “are you up to xyz?” or ask “what are you up to?” This was a fun parallel media consumption for us.
There are silly rocket-ship themed shows like “Space Force” and alternative reality shows like “For All Mankind.” Movies can be mostly realistic like “Apollo 13” or wildly fanciful like “Intersteller.” There is a certain romance to discovering what’s out there.
