69. Silly Sports: Write about an extreme or silly sport. If none inspire you, make up the rules for your own game.
My initial response was “I know nothing about sports” but then I remembered I ran triathlons for 12 years. It was never a competitive endeavor for me so that could be a reason I didn’t think of triathlon as a sport. Triathlon was a social event, an exercise opportunity, and a way work smarter not harder.
Participating in triathlon is not just about being able to swim, bike and run, it’s about having the right gear, practicing transitions, and fueling properly. I was never particularly good in any sport (I was a passable biker) but where I really shined was transitions. I saved my time often with fast and efficient transitions.
When I participated, I was age-grouped with women who were national swimmers and seasoned athletes so I never has the chance to ever even place. My goal was to participate for so many years, that so many women would stop competing that I could finally place. Alas, because of my repeated injuries, I was one of those women who stopped.
