55. Holding Hands: The first time you held someone’s hand.
Holding hands in kindergarten probably isn’t what this prompt is seeking. In sixth grade, our class had square dancing and I was excited to hold hands with the boys in class even if it was just dancing.
I had a seventh-grade boyfriend and we held hands walking in the hallways between classes. Holding hands was a status symbol along with writing the boy’s name on your peechee folder. The dialog in my head: Are we going to hold hands? Is he going to reach for my hand? Should I brush his hand with mine? Then when we were holding hands: When should we stop holding hands? We’re coming up where we split to go to separate classes, should I drop the hand first or wait for him? So many questions around the simple act of holding hands.
