339. Pick Me Up: What do you do when you need a pick me up?
Coffee. Mom brewed coffee in a percolator on the stove everyday with the bad days being when it boiled over or when it was burned. I liked the smell but thought it was vile tasting. My first job was as a Coco’s hostess and I learned that if I loaded my cup with cream and sugar, I could stomach it although it made me wildly jittery. I drank mostly tea through college and grad school. Moving in with a BF, we got a drip coffee maker and I would have one cup on the weekend. Then I got married and DH drank a lot of coffee which translated to me drinking up to 3 cups a day: 2 in the morning and 1 mid-morning. I never drink after noon so any remaining caffeine doesn’t affect my sleep. When I worked outside the house, I drank a cup at home and a cup at work. Traveling, I try to have a cup of coffee in the morning but it doesn’t always work out logistically. Now I drink at least one cup but don’t always need a second cup. I like the taste and how it makes me feel. It is my 3rd favorite food, picks me up, and calms me down. Elixir of the gods.
