325. Lost and Found: Write about a lost object.
In the early 2000s, my mom gave me a pair of ruby and diamond earrings, ruby being my birthstone. The rubies were drop-set with the diamonds anchoring the top and they were very attractive. I had a habit of wearing nice jewelry when I shouldn’t e.g. exercising gardening so it really shouldn’t have surprised me when I lost one. I was devastated by the loss, frantically and methodically looking for the earring in the yard, in the house, in the car, and the route between home and the kids’ school. I mourned the loss and imagined where it could have ended up. Was it lying in a gutter or parking lot? Or did it fall down a drain or get ground into the dirt? I felt sorry for in its loneliness and abandonment.
