316. Come to Life: Imagine ordinary objects have come to life. Write about what they do and say.
I’ve always anthropomorphized things by feeling sorry for objects that were thrown away when they were perfectly fine – hmmmm, and I wonder why it’s so hard to get rid of things in the basement. When I’ve scraped the rice out of the pan and I can’t get the last bits off so I have to wash them off, I have a whole existential crisis. When the unused grain of rice circle the drain, I think of its journey:
- it sprouted somewhere
- grew under the sun with water
- harvested by someone
- transported to a processing plant where it was packaged
- transported again to a store
- stocked on the shelf by someone
Then I
- purchased it
- transported it home
- stored in the pantry
- chose it for dinner
- prepared it
But then it was not eaten and thrown away. It’s entire existence was pointless. No wonder I’m exhausted emotionally.
