313. Playground: Whether it is the swings or the sandbox or the sliding boards, write about your memories of being on a playground.
The playground equipment I remember were swings, monkey bars, rings, chin-up bars, teeter-totters, and merry-go-rounds. There were no climbing structures like there are in playgrounds today. In fourth grade, the popular girl trick was to wrap a jacket around a chin up bar, loop one leg over the bar, loop your hands under the bar to clasp them together over the shin, and then propel yourself either forward or backward in a circle around and around the bar. You could use the free, dangled leg to keep up the momentum around the bar until you either were too sore or you wanted to throw up. The jacket was to protect leg and elbow creases but those areas were always the sorest. You couldn’t wear a dress when you did this for obvious reasons. Good times.
