292. Job Interview: Write about going on a job interview.
The last real interview I had was in 2008 when I wanted the web developer job at UCSB. I had been running my own business for 10 years but DH wanted me to get a job outside of the business, I think because he knew layoffs were in his future. I was already working my business, on the PTA for 2 schools which included doing the school’s website and newsletter, was a Cub Scout den leader and assistant pack leader so the thought of working outside the house, even for 20 hours a weeks seemed like an impossibility. I had to figure out when I would exercise and the only answer was at 5am. I entered the interview with these pressures on my back and faced at least 6 people for the group interview. I felt confident in my answers and my professionalism. At the time, the position was only supposed to be for one year with no benefits which I thought was as much as I could handle so I was happy that I didn’t have to have a second interview and I was offered the job. I was thankful that a group of people considered a middle-aged woman a good candidate. The job turned into a permanent position with benefits. After five years, I thanked my coworkers on my hiring committee and when I retired, I called out the remaining 2 people who were still on staff. I’m glad I had a successful interview.
