287. Scary Monsters: Write about a scary (or not-so-scary) monster in your closet or under the bed.
I used to have intense nightmares. As a teen, I know I should not have read Stephen King book because they were scary but what I liked about them was the illusion of control: I could stop and start the story, it was a choice. The nightmares were not a choice and I also thought “there’s horror going on in my head already, what difference does reading a book make?” I think it was after reading Cujo that I decided I needed a long bread from the external horror because the internal horror was overwhelming. I was very careful after that which King books I’d read and I never watch horror movies.
