270. Mind Map it Out: Create a mind map of words, phrases, and ideas that pop into your head or spend some time browsing the many mind maps online. Write a poem, story, or journal entry inspired by the mind map.
I was first introduced to mind mapping in 2015 by two GFs who were really into the concept. I wanted to be part of the cool-girls group so I followed the instructions while we were doing a self-discovery exercise of some sort. The exercise left me shrugging and saying “meh” and I was disappointed that it didn’t “work for me.” Even though I think in shapes, colors, and textures, brainstorming by using the mind map left me flat, uninspired, and un-creative.
I can reverse engineer a mind map though. I take notes and ask questions when I’m planning something new. Once I have my thoughtful and clever list, then I can make the the graphic to match it. This seems counter to how I usually do things, but this is the reality for mind mapping.
