“No feeling is final.”
– Rainer Maria Rilke
I learned about cognitive behavioral therapy in grad school and embraced the concept that your thoughts and attitudes about something affects what you do and how you feel about it. If you can reframe how you view something, it can change your behavior. No feeling is final since you can change your attitude about something which then shifts what your feelings are. I’ve seen that this practice has come under attack by Gen-Z with them stating that this is a form of gas-lighting by making you pretend you’re happy when you really aren’t. I don’t think CBT is for everyone or for every issue, but I think with those who have distorted thinking, this is helpful.
