253. Poker Face: Write about playing a card game.
When I was around ten years old, my mom went to work full time to fund braces and my sister’s upcoming college endeavor. I bet she was also looking forward to getting out of the house although it created twice the work for her in the long run. But I digress. After I was left alone after school for several weeks, I was binge eating and watching too much TV so mom found a Mormon family who provided child care. A main activity amongst us kids was playing cards. I knew how to play solitaire but I learned the variation of King’s Corner that I loved to play. I rarely could win against the older kids (especially the kids belonging to the family) so I relished any tiny victory I could eek out.
