How to give yourself a manicure:
- Trim your nails until they are roughly the same length.
- File your nails into the shape you like. Common shapes are square, squoval, round, oval, almond, ballerina, and stiletto.
- Clip any hangnails and massage some oil or lotion into the cuticles so you can push them down to expose more nail. Rest your nails for a bit before moving on.
- Use a nail cleaner to remove anything sticky or oily. This is to dehydrate the nail so that subsequent products work correctly.
- Use a base coat to protect the nails and prevent from future chipping. Wait until this is completely dry before the color coat.
- When painting your nails, paint your dominant hand first.
- Paint your nails with your preferred color. Are you going to match the color to your outfit? Let dry and apply a second coat, covering any errors from the first coat.
- Finish off with a top coat to help prevent chipping and to add shine to your nails.
- Clean up any errors with a Q-tip dipped in polish remover.
- Enjoy your art.
