224. Drinks on Me: Write a poem or short story that takes place at a bar.
For those of us who do drink alcohol, having a local bar where we feel comfortable is aspirational. We visited all of the nearby dive bars (including 2 of the closest cities) and settled on the bar previously known as Jimboz. There was never a sign out front advertising its existence and the interior was decorated in mid-century dive bar. We buy tacos across the street at a Mexican grocery store/cantina and ferry them to the bar to eat with our cold beer. A few years ago, the owner Jim died so the bar closed for a long time. Several patrons bought the bar and re-opened it under the name De La Vina Lounge, complete with a sign on the front, and an updated interior. It’s not a “Cheers” situation where everyone knows our name, but all patrons are friendly and treat us with familiarity. It will always be Jimboz to us.
