216. Oh so Lonely: Write a poem about what you do when you are alone – do you feel lonely or do you enjoy your own company?
I am often alone and only sometimes am I lonely. Except for raising young children (because then you’re never alone), I’ve spent more time alone in my life than with others. Growing up, my siblings were much older than I was so they did not spend much time with me. I didn’t have many friends so I played by myself. I read in the bathroom during recess in elementary school, went to the library in junior high, and did not hang out with a group at lunch during high school. I was ultra academic in college and grad school so I studied by myself. I did enjoy working at a resort where my job was to interact with guests. My job as a web/graphics person is solitary with little interaction with clients. Currently, I spend time by myself or with DH2 and have to make a concentrated effort to see GFs or kids. I do get lonely sometimes these days and try to distract myself with activities like blogging, social media, and chores. I know how to be alone.
