214. Grandparents: Write about a moment in your grandparent’s life.
My maternal grandmother arrived on a boat from the Netherlands at age 3 and was the youngest of 11 children and the last to pass away. She lost her mom when she was 11, her dad when she was 13 so she had to beg quarters from her brothers and sisters to be able to eat until she obtained a domestic position.
She lived at YWCA and sweetly, the girls from the YWCA remained in touch with her until their deaths.She belonged to First Christian Reformed Church in New Jersey and sang in choir as early as 1919. She never questioned her circumstances, just lived them without being angry about it or bitter.
