189. Rainbow: What is at the end of a rainbow? Or, take a cue from Kermit the Frog, and ask yourself, why are there so many songs about rainbows?
Growing up, a rainbow was a rare thing and mostly showed up in coloring books. It was an easy shape and concept plus many crayon colors could be used. I like how the rainbow has morphed and is now a queer symbol. As a queer signal, the colors reflect the diversity of the community in addition to the spectrum of human sexuality and genders. Whereas a rainbow would appear on a little girl’s tshirt, now it’s a proud signifier for queer tshirt. A rainbow is colorful and happy and I love that it’s been adopted and proudly displayed on all types of clothing.
