187. Longing: Write about something you very much want to do.
How do you know what you want to do? I’m three weeks into a four week workshop called “What you really really want” designed to answer that question. A GF who was enrolled suggested that because I was retiring that this course would be helpful in determining how I move into retirement. The course has a daily prompt that covers topics such as:
- What does it mean to know what you want
- What gets in the way
- Beyond what’s available
- Your core desires
There is a once a week 2-hour zoom meeting for all who are participating which gives us an opportunity for coaching and for break out rooms with 1-2 other people. I liked looking at how envy helps inform what you want, what the down sides are to getting what you want, and how can a situation be made 10% better.
A challenge initially was that for the last 20 years, I have been trying to live with the Cheryl Crow line about “it’s not having what you want, it’s wanting what you’ve got.” I’ve also been very good at getting things I want e.g. a degree, a profession, another profession, marriage, kids, house, financial stability, fitness, adventure, interesting skills/hobbies. This course solidifies that I do indeed have what I want beyond all the things I want but already have. I recognize that I want regular connection to my GFs, a community, and to clean out the basement. I’m happy with that.
