177. How Does Your Garden Grow? Write about a flower that grows in an unusual place.
During the pandemic lock down, we tried hard to stay active by hiking but to keep from being bored, we tried new trails. DH2 wanted to find the highest point in Ventura so we tried Mt. Pinos on a warm June morning. Our dog was happy to hike in a new place with many new smells and trails. As we enjoyed our new views, there were alien-looking patches of red poking through the ground cover and I had never seen anything like it before. We happened upon a guy who told us they were snow plants and I just found out that they are actually a parasitic plant that derives sustenance and nutrients from mycorrhizal fungi that attach to tree roots! I love learning new things.
